2022 Nissan Frontier

Entering its third generation, the all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier is receiving its first major redesign in 16 years. The reimagined midsize pickup comes as part of Nissan’s NEXT transformation plan, and with over 62 years on the road, it’s time the fan-favorite Frontier’s gets redesigned from the groundd up.

Over its long history, the Frontier has become one of the most beloved mid-size trucks in the U.S. The all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier builds on this foundation adding new capabilities, utility features, and an upgraded powertrain. The 2022 Frontier is expected to go on sale in late summer 2021.

Bold, rugged exterior

The new Frontier goes back to its roots with elements inspired by the iconic Nissan Hardbody. In 1959, Nissan brought America something never seen before – the midsize pickup. Since then, the Frontier has built a reputation for dependability, off-roading capabilities, and even award-winning racing. The 2022 Frontier goes back to its roots pulling elements from the classic Hardbody and adding its own modern twist.

The truck’s bold exterior features a squared-off front face framed by a massive grille and chiseled hood. The tall vertical fender evokes strength and durability – a look that pairs perfectly with its powerhouse engine.

Although the Frontier packs a powerful punch, it’s not oversized. The Frontier is the perfect middle ground, whether you need it for a workweek in the city or a weekend off-road adventure. It’s compact enough to fit in urban garage parking, while also being large enough for loads of cargo and equipment. In a segment where pickup truck dimensions continue to grow, the Frontier stays true to its award-winning frame.

V6 Engine on 2022 Nissan Frontier

Makes power look easy

If you want a truck that does it all, look no further. The Frontier has a powertrain that’s just as robust as its exterior. The truck stands out from the pack with its best-in-class 310 horsepower and standard 3.8-liter direction-injection V6 engine. If that’s not enough, each model also comes standard with an unmatched 9-speed automatic transmission. Together, these create a high-performing, strong acceleration no matter the road.

Nissan went full throttle when redesigning the Frontier’s ride and handling. Along with the new 9-speed transmission, they’ve included a new high-response electro-hydraulic system, long input shaft, and 99 percent wider gear range. This means the transmission offers a crisp, smooth response throughout the entire gear range. Similarly, the steering gear was fine-tuned to create a better on-center feel which reduces driver fatigues on long trips.

It doesn’t stop there though. Thoughtful design changes make the 2022 Frontier a much smoother, more efficient ride. New front and rear suspensions help achieve the best-level handling possible both on and off-road. In addition, new hydraulic cab mounts reduce road vibration by 80 percent, while urethane jounce bumpers (the only in class) improve damping. Nissan tops off the Frontier’s riding capabilities with larger front and rear stabilizer bars to reduce body roll and increase traction, as well as standard 4-wheel ABS disc brakes for confident stopping power.

For 4WD models, drivers can expect even more. They feature a shift-on-the-fly drive system and limited-slip system, which helps transfer power to the front wheels on low traction surfaces. Stuck in challenging terrain? No need to worry. The Frontiers come standard with Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control. The PRO-4X model pushes the limits and adds on off-road shock absorbers and underbody skid plates for the most fierce adventurers.

While the Frontier is midsized, it can still tow a hefty load. Its towing capacity is rated at 6,720 pounds – plenty for trailers, boats, ATVs, and gear. Also, for the first time ever, the Frontier comes standard with Trailer Sway Control. This helps create a more secure towing experience by automatically applying the brakes when swaying is detected. To finish things off, the bed comes with four tie-down hooks to help secure gear of any shape and size.

2022 Nissan Frontier Safety Features

Class-exclusive technology and safety features

Don’t just go off our word, the Frontier has the awards to back it. One of these being J.D. Power’s “Most Dependable Midsize Pickup” – which it’s won 3 years in a row. Nissan hopes to continue this streak, and possibly win even more, with the 2022 Frontier. The truck will come with Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor with Off-Road Mode, which creates a bird’s eye view for easier maneuvering. Steer with ease and precision, conquering any terrain with a total panoramic view.

Along with this, the Frontier includes the following safety features:

  • 8 Standard Airbags

2022 Nissan Frontier Interior

Utility-maximized interior

Following suit with its modernized exterior is the Frontier’s all-new interior. It’s been reinvented to give maximum protection, versatility, and functionality. Starting off, the truck features a largest-in-class 9-inch color touchscreen on all models. The center dashboard has been reinvented to give an intuitive, user-friendly interface, and the 7-inch Advanced Driver Assist Display is just as easily digestible.

When it came to the interior, Nissan listened to drivers’ feedback. They learned that the center console storage was a common feature lacking in pickups. Because of this, the 2022 Frontier provides 4 liters of center console storage – nearly double that of most mid-size trucks. Along with this, there are 5.7 liters of rear-door pocket storage and 6.5 liters of front-door pocket storage.

Drivers can choose between Charcoal or Sandstone interior color options. For the PRO-4X/PRO-X models, options also include Charcoal with Lava Red.

New 2022 Frontier Trim Levels

The new 2022 Nissan Frontier for sale will feature 4 different trim levels and 6 different configurations. These include; the 2022 Nissan Frontier S, the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV, the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-X, and the 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. Options for 2WD and 4WD are available. Similarly, drivers can choose short bed (5-foot) or long bed (6-foot) options.
